General advice for your search

The computer catalogue provides information on the library's holdings and lending information: bibliographic data on items, the location and status of books.

  • Searches must be entered with precise accents.
  • The system does not distinguish between upper and lower case, either one can be used.
  • You do not need to enter words, these words are ignored when searching (e.g. a, az, the, an, der).
  • When entering data for a search, the search should be kept simple: for rare surnames, the first name is not required. For frequent surnames, entering the first name will limit the number of hits.
  • If there are many works by the same author in the database, entering the author's name and a word from the title will give a more accurate result.
  • Truncation is possible when entering a search value with * (e.g.: law*) - in this case, the program will find all items containing the word start and any additional characters. The condition to be searched for can be truncated from the right or from the left. Truncation replaces any number of characters.

Simple search

The word/phrase to be searched for can be entered in a field. From the drop-down panel, you can choose which search value to search for in the database. Once you select a category, it will only search for matches in that category.

Advanced search

In the compound search there are 3 search fields by default, under the search fields you have the option to add more rows by clicking on the "Add new field" button. Under the search fields there are 3 radio buttons to specify a logical relationship between multiple search values. The minus button in front of the search fields allows you to delete fields that have been added to the search interface.

Browse

This search mode is used when you do not know the exact properties of the material you are looking for, but only have approximate information. In this case, the program does not search for an exact match, but lists a given number of materials starting from the record closest to the search term.
