In Cluj-Napoca, the tradition of university education and available intellectual resources made it possible to start niche courses which require professional backgrounds. Being located in Cluj-Napoca also assists scientific research through the Institute for Research Programs, a publishing house in Cluj operated by Sapientia.

In order to create a four-pillar university structure as originally envisaged, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Arts, offering a major in Environmental Science, started its activities in October 2002 in Cluj-Napoca. It joined the faculties in Miercurea-Ciuc and Tirgu-Mures, which had been operational since 2001, and the partner institution in Oradea. Since then we have expanded, and now offer majors in Film, Photography, and Media Studies (since 2003), International Relations and European Studies (since 2006), and Dance Arts (since 2020).

The faculty has the following Masters: Diplomacy and Intercultural Studies (since 2014), Film Studies (since 2015), Environmental Monitoring and Protection (since 2016), and Judicial Career (since 2022).

Currently, the faculty has around 300 students, supervised by a teaching staff numbering over 40. The number of full-time teachers is over 30 this year.

The Faculty in Cluj-Napoca is located in a modern building in the heart of Cluj. The new building houses both teaching and administrative facilities: the Dean's Office, the Economics Department, lecture and seminar rooms, the media department's studio and editing rooms, laboratories, library, exhibition halls, guest rooms and the Student Council offices.

'Tonk Sándor' Library

The library of Sapientia University Cluj-Napoca was established in 2003, and since October 2013 has been located on the sixth floor of the rear building of our Calea Turzii property, where it provides a majestic, panoramic view of the city. Since May 2005, the library has been named after Sándor Tonk, the first President of the Sapientia Foundation and founding Rector of Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania.

The books of the Faculty of Cluj-Napoca include essential reference books (encyclopaedias and dictionaries), Hungarian and foreign language textbooks, and reference books and journals for the study of environmental sciences, law, film, photography, media, international relations and European studies.

The main duties of the library are to provide students with all necessary study materials and to house all technical, academic literature required by our teaching staff. The continually growing collection and the many academic journal subscriptions maintained by the library reflect and service the high academic standards of our institution.

Currently, the stock comprises more than 28,000 items, including Hungarian and foreign language books, periodicals, audio materials and electronic documents required for vocational training. The bulk of the stock is kept in the compact storage room, in the usual open shelving arrangement, while the most frequently used volumes and the latest acquisitions are kept in the reading room in the gallery. The library's stock is constantly growing, with around 1000-1300 volumes added each year, partly through the purchase of new books and partly through donations and library exchanges.
